Larson Red Angus, located at the base of the beautiful Crazy Mountains north of Big Timber, remains committed to fundamental breeding principles and rigid culling practices. For the last 30 years, the breeding philosophy of Larson Red Angus has focused on producing top quality cattle, both genotypically and phenotypically, that achieve superior performance across diverse environments. It all begins with a leading-edge cowherd, which produces bulls and females that excel in balanced traits, guaranteeing that our customers are purchasing breed-leading genetics that will move their programs forward.

Larson Red Angus
Dave and Emily received the "Pioneer Breeders " award from the Red Angus Association in 2002

Well-known as one of the top maternal herds in the country, the cowherd's reputation is the result of rigid culling for performance, udder construction, fertility, feet, longevity, and calving ease. Adding additional value is the fact that these critically important economic traits are incorporated into very attractive phenotypic packages.   The exceptional genetics of the herd is evidenced by the fact that the average Total Maternal EPD in the herd is 40, ranking the average cow in the top 12% of the breed!    The females in the donor program are required to produce at the highest levels for five years before being flushed. The pedigrees are easily recognized and well-represented across the country.

Each and every sire used in the program is selected with extreme care to produce genetically advanced progeny.  The first calves out of our new sire LNZ Prime Cut 7102, a Gridmaster son, have far exceeded expectations.   As you will note as you look at both the bulls and heifers, their performance, phenotype, and stats rank them right up with the best in the breed.   They are exciting to raise, and will be exciting to own!   He did break an important breeding part last spring, so his future is uncertain, though we do have a bank of semen.    The Messmer Packer calves are exceptional, along with calves sired by Red Six Mile Sakic, Larson Shiloh 731, 5L Norseman king 2291, and Basin Trendsetter.   Without question, this is the best set of calves we have ever offered for sale!

Everyone talks about the wisdom and necessity of balanced trait selection.   We don't just talk about it...   .we do it!   Each mating is carefully evaluated, taking into account the strengths and weaknesses of each individual animal and selecting a mating that results in progeny that are superior, both   genetically and phenotypically.   Decisions are based on selection for calving ease, maternal excellence, low maintenance values, superior performance, balanced carcass traits, correct udders and feet, breed-leading EPDs, efficient forage conversion, phenotypic correctness, fertility, temperament and longevity.

With far-sighted, inspired leadership from the beginning, the Red Angus Association has set the industry standard for accuracy and predictability of EPDs and ERTs through the implementation of THR.   As the only major breed requiring mandatory reporting of the annual production of each cow and calf, the resulting data is the most reliable in the business. The availability of this unique, unbiased data allows Red Angus Cattle to be the most genetically accurately described cattle in the industry

We are extremely proud of genetics offered in our 2010 sale. These cattle are bred for performance, not only on the range, but also in the feedlot.   We are confident they will not disappoint. One can only speculate on what future economic conditions will be, but, no matter the developments, exceptional genetics from a reputation herd will always be a profitable choice.   We invite your questions and/or comments and we look forward to seeing you at the auction March 10, 2010
